The Toten Hosen in Rottweil
“…We just looked at
and for seconds the world just stood still.”
Surely someone noticed them when the young punks got off their bus at a bar in Rottweil in the mid-80s. The Toten Hosen from Düsseldorf were on their way to their next gig when Andreas Frege, aka Campino, and a stunning girl met. It was one of those moments that takes on a life of its own in a musician's mind and eventually finds its expression in a song.
“…my feet carried me back to the bus
I hadn’t paid.”
When the Toten Hosen made their second appearance in Rottweil on August 7, 2002, at the Kraftwerk, almost 20 years later, they brought "the girl from Rottweil" from their new album "Auswärtsspiel" with them. The band made various efforts to track down Campino's crew from that time. Only women were allowed at this concert. The crew dressed up in lipstick and wigs, and some of the Toten Hosen performed only in leopard-print panties. Whether the woman ever showed up, Campino has kept his fans guessing to this day, with varying statements.
“And I wonder how she lives today,
whether she is happy and with which man”
